Bout of Books 7

Last day of Bout!  I thought I'd get more reading done, because Sundays are pretty low brow over here.  Only it got a bit crazy at work when we lost power for a cool second.  However, I managed to read for a bit on the bus to and from work.  Which got me some funny looks when I got to a rather tense seen and started flipping pages aggressively to find out what happened just a little faster!  I hope everyone had a nice quiet Sunday and read some amazing books.  Tomorrow I'll sit down and do a small recap of the week.  Gemina is amazing and though I won't finish before Bout is over, I won't have much left!

Again today was a Free Day with no challenge. However, I did get to talk books with one of my front of house staff, which was cool.  I got to recommend her some new books, and she gave me a few titles I'm eager to check out.  Plus, I got to geek a bit with a younger customer over Harry Potter.  She was reading Chamber of Secrets for the first time.  That was a highlight!

Hope this was a great reading week for everyone in Bout of Books 18.  I can't wait to see what some of the favorite books for the week were!

Bout of Books Day 6

Day 6 is almost over.  Today was the day where everything tried to fall to pieces. It started with my car not starting before I made to work, and then it was just a tone of little things piled up on top of each other.  Mostly it made my day long and I couldn't do anything about my car.  Upside to all of this is I live on the bus line so no car means no problem. Just a brisk walk tomorrow morning in the chill! My fingers are crossed that my car is fixable, but then again I've had that bad boy going on ten years.  Might need time for an upgrade! 

Saturday was a Free Day, which means no challenge.  I've spent the last few hours curled up with my cat finishing my catch-up for Prison Break, and now I'm off to finally read before bed.  I hope everyone manage to find a bit of time to read today!  Only one more day!

Bout of Books Day 5

Four days down and only three to go!  I hope everyone is having an amazing read-a-thon!! I'm finishing up on here then curling up in my nest with my cat and reading the evening away. Last night I stayed up way to late because I got sucked into Gemina.  I'm a little over halfway through at this point and everything is starting to come together and the hit the fan. Possible even explode.  I don't know!!

So the challenge for today is If You Like This, Try This.  For this I picked three favorites books that I haven't seen on a lot of blogs.  All three are favorite series of mine.

Both books are a High Fantasy Series with a lovable main character with questionable morals.

Both have kick-butt female roles with witty, and often put upon, best friends as sidekicks.

Most Anticipated - January Edition

First pick of 2017!!  I had to do some thinking about this one over the last few days.  Normally I make a list of all the books I'm looking forward to, and pick the one I'm most likely to pick up first.  This month wasn't so easy.  Five books really stood out for me this month, but I honestly this one I think is the one I'm really excited for.  Sorry, Mr. Gaiman!!  Last year I was bad about keeping up with my TBR and things I was reading.  This year my goal is make sure my Most Anticipated is shoved in my monthly reading pile! So here we go!

Historical Fiction is a genre that I don't read enough, but enjoy reading. Especially stories based in the Civil War Era of the United States.  There was so much was going on in our country at the time.  Not just the war against the States.  So, I've already put The Second Mrs. Hockaday on hold at my library, #13 of 8, in order to start the year with good habits for the blog. 

As the first month of the new year rolls in, what is everyone else looking forward to??

Bout of Books Day 4

Day 3 is in the books! I'm officially halfway through Gemina and holy freaking monkeys.  I've seen a lot of reviews that say they preferred Illuminae over Gemina, but I think it's a solid sophomore novel.  I have a lot of positive feels about it that I can't wait to share via my review!

Of course a new day of Bout means a new challenge, which is Book Spine Poetry.  I almost didn't do this one, because as I was looking at my spines nothing was coming to me.  Poetry isn't exactly my strong suit.  However, after seeing a few other posts via Twitter I decided to go for it.  My Book Spine Poetry is a little on the darker side, but hey that's kind of me.  

Bonus look at my cats' toy box, and small peek of my wall books!  I apologize for the creepy, and not so good poem, but hey I tried.  I hope everyone finds time to get their read on today!  Only 3 days left!!

Bout of Books Day 3

Two days down! Not much reading done yesterday, but that's okay because I have today off.  Once I've run my errands I'm curling up with my books.  The library was good to me yesterday and good chunk of what I have on hold came in.  Plus, Gemina is getting intense!!

Day 3 of course also comes with a challenge, Book to Movie. 

Well, two of my favorites that I'd love to see on the big screen have already been picked up.  Now it's just a waiting game for them to happen.  Those are The Lies of Locke Lamora and Red Rising.  I'd love to see Tom Hiddleston play Locke Lamora, and Iwan Rheon play Sevro.  I'm also really interested to see how the turn Illuminae movie is going to go.

I do have a series I'd love to see on my television, Game of Thrones style, which is the Riyera series.  Michael J. Sullivan has created a wonderful and epic characters.  I would love to see them come to life in a TV Series.  I think Charlie Hunnam would make an excellent Hadrian, but I'd love for Garret Hedlund to play Royce.  Basically I want to see their bromance in action, that's what I want.

I grew in a town not far from the Oklahoma border, but that wasn't how I learned about the Tulsa Race Riots.  In fact the only reason was because of a museum I visited with my parents on vacation.  Since then I've only found a few book about the Riots.  My fingers are crossed it lives up to my expectation, because it sounds really good!

Bout of Books Day 2

Looks like we all survived the first day of Bout! Despite work and catching up on the season premiere of Sherlock (and no, I do not want to talk about it!), I did manage to squeeze in a 100 pages last night.  Now on to Day 2! Work is really testing my ability to squeeze in reading time with a meeting before my shift, as well as some admin work I opted to do at home!  Good thing I'm off tomorrow so I can stay up and fall asleep in my book tonight! 

New day, means a new Challenge.  Today Bout of Books wants to know my goals, my plans, and maybe a photo of some of my TBR!

Top Ten Tuesday

So this will be my very first Top Ten Tuesday! I see this meme all over other blogs and I've found a lot of good books through it, and had a lot of fun reading them.  This week seemed like the best time to jump.  So many good books are getting released this year, I couldn't pick just one to be my Most Anticipated! So thanks to The Broke and Bookish, who created this Meme, I don't have to. This week the topic is Top Ten 2017 Debuts I'm Excited For.  

What I realized while going through my 2017 reads is I don't have any debut authors on my list. But, I'm comitted to this things.  So these are just the 2017 Released I'm Excited For!

1. Age of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan - These books are wonderfully written, and I need to what the ending of the first book was about. It broke my heart.
2. The Thorn of Emberlain by Scott Lynch - I'm not quite to book #4 yet, but these books are addicting.  Lynch is an amazing author and I love his main character Locke Lamora!
3. The Burning World by Issac Marion - Ugh, these books!  They are so good and creepy. I'm so excited this universe gets to expand past Warm Bodies.

1. Pyromantic by Lish McBride - Love this author! Her books are always a good time, and Werebunnies!!
2. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee - This books just sounds like a good time!
3. Iron Gold by Pierce Brown - I won't survive another trilogy, but I'm going to jump into it head first, because I love this universe that Brown has created!

 

1. Within the Sanctuary of Wings by Marie Brennan - This is the last book in the Lady Trent Series, and I wouldn't miss picking it up!
2. Illuminae Files #3 by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - No title, no cover, no plot....no problem. Still excited to see how this adventure in.  Probably in tears, which will be mine.
3. Norse Myhology by Neil Gaiman - Combines my two favorite things Mr. Gaiman and Norse Mythology.  Course I'm excited!!

1. Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco - This book just sounds like it'll be so good!

December Wrap-Up

What a month!  It started out very quiet and pretty chill, and then it exploded.  Though I honestly can't complain about being busy.  The hours might have been long, but I'm the crew with some pretty people.  We made the best of it and survived the Holidays!  Christmas was quiet and I got to spend some time with family.  Even my New Year's was quiet.  Which after the holiday hustle was nice!  However, I didn't have much time to ready.  I was pretty exhausted after work so basically I let myself be sucked into Netflix.  At this point I'm nearly caught up on Supernatural!

Bout of Books Day #1

Day one! So I've been stuck at work all day and haven't had a chance to sit down and read.  Which means I'm 0 for 0 on the pages read right now.  After I finish up here and make some dinner I'll curl up with some tea and crack up my open books for a few hours!
