February Wrap Up

So I haven't been around much in the last month.  To be honest I had no idea that February was going to look like it did.  I ended up a lot busier than I thought I would.  I celebrated my birthday at the start of the month.  Which was amazing! I got a couple new books to add to the ever growing pile, and I got to see Let the Right One's In performed by the National Theater of Scotland.  It was fantastic and right good evening.  After that my calendar just stayed full during my days off and the occasional evening I wasn't at work.  The latter also threw me off a bit.  My schedule changed around a bit and that threw off my schedule as well.  I've picked up shifts in a different area of the bakery and that's been learning a curve.  However, it seems that I've managed to get the swing of work and having a personal life again.  So hopefully I'm pack to reading, and blogging, a little more actively this month.

Currently Reading: Anno Dracula: 1988

While I had a lot going on on this month, very few were actually book related.  I got a couple of pretty epic books for my birthday.  My mom found me a really good book, and while I was celebrating with a little book shopping I realized I missed the fact that Kim Newman has two new books out this year.  Both of which are in the Anno Dracula series!  It's taken me a month due to exhaustion, but I'm over halfway through the first of the books!

Also the start of the month was the release of Burning World the newest addition to Issac Marion's Warm Bodies series.  Was the best way to spend my birthday!  It was really cool to hear him talk about the series and what was coming for the characters and what he had coming next.  R and Julie are the next book I plan to pick up this month!

This is the second book in the Firebug series.  It follows right after where Firebug left off.  I didn't want to post the whole description from Goodreads, because it gives a bit of how the first book ends away.  So if you haven't read that book, don't read too far into synopsis.  But seriously if you haven't read the first book, do it!! Lish McBride is an hilarious writer and I strongly recommend her to everyone! If that's not enough to convince you.  Were-bunnies! That's all I'm saying!!

January Wrap Up

We are officially well into 2017!  I hope it's been treating everyone well.  So far I honestly can't complain about year.  Hit a bit of book hangover after I finished Gemina.  I did that thing where I picked up a book, only to get distracted by something, then have it due back to the library.  However, I've seem to have kicked that problem!  I discovered I missed the release of a new Dracula book by Kim Newman.  Anyway! On to my stats:

Finally, I got to see Rogue One! Christmas is insanely busy at the bakery I work at.  So there really wasn't much time between work, present buying, and celebrating the Holidays! It was totally worth the wait, though!  I didn't have to see it in a packed theater and I had awesome company in my flatmate! On the subject of movies, of course I watched the final season of Sherlock... I was not emotional prepared for that!

Other than that I was sort of a hermit this month.  A lost of staying home and binge watching Hawaii-Five-O!  I'll try to be less of a hermit in February, but so far we've gotten snow that is all but telling me that my days off should spent in my reading knook with a good book and my cat!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish!!

This week is all about Books that should have had more something.  It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to compile my list this week.  A theme, or no theme?  That was the question I asked myself.  In the end I got some rad advice from my Boss (cause she's full of the sage wisdom) and set the list my way.  So here we go:

1. Batman '66 Vol 1 - I grew watching reruns of this show with my dad, and I was so excited when DC Comics released a comic version of the I show I loved.  However, I was left wishing it was campy as the show was... 
2. The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury - While I enjoyed a great number of things about this book, it left me wanting in certain places.  I wanted the main character to step up a little more and be brave.  I wanted more sword fighting.
3. A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas - Another book I liked, but left me wanting.  I wanted more from our main character. There were so many moments where I wanted to like her, to bond with her, but then I was left wanting a few pages later.

1. The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher - I loved these books, but there was something about the comic that just didn't connect with me.  I was left wanting from all around piece.
2. Seven for a Secret by Lyndsay Faye - This one left me wanting for more from our main character.  I felt like there was no growth from Timothy from book one to book two, and his relationship with his brother took a drastic turn without much explanation. After loving the first book, this one just left wishing for my growth of our core characters.
3. Queen of Thieves by North Conway - I wanted to learn more about the "Marm" than I felt I did with book.  For me, it felt like the story was more about the criminals that the Mandelbaum mold that about the women herself.

1. Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker - I wanted to be a little more scared.  Usually, Clive Barker's books (and movies) have me sleeping with a lamp on.  This one, while I enjoyed it, didn't have me hiding under the covers.
2. Six Miles to Charleston by Bruce Orr - What I wanted from this book was more of a linear path for the story.  It jumped about so much, even though I read it in an afternoon, I found myself getting mixed up with facts.
3. Zebulon Finch by Daniel Kraus - All I wanted to do was like the main character.  Instead I spent most of this book wanting to simply punch him in the face.

1. The Archie Lean Series by Kieran Sheilds - All I want is for there to be one more book!  Two wasn't enough time with Archie!!

Seeing how the stupid groundhog predicted more winter weather, and at leas in my neck of the woods he wasn't wrong.  I hope everyone is staying warm and has some good books to curl up with!

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme started by The Broke and The Bookish!

For the last Tuesday in January, it's all about the visuals on Top Ten.  This week I'll be doing by Top Ten Comics/Graphic Novels sitting on my TBR.

1. Lucifer Vol. 1 by Holly Black - I'm a fan of the original character in Sandman and I love Holly Blake.  Lucky for me this one just came in at the library today.  So it moved to the top of the list!
2. Ghostbusters International by Erik Burnham - Who doesn't love the Ghostbusters?
3. Lady Killer Vol 2. by Joelle Jones - I came across this right after the first issues came out and fell in love.  I'm super excited to get my hands on the second volume.

1. A Study in Scarlet by Ian Edginton - I read Hound of the Baskervilles last year and loved it! I honestly need to just pick up the others.
2. Grayson Vol 1 by Tom Kind - I've been reading Batman Comics for years, and Grayson keeps coming across my radar, so I've finally added it to my list to see if it's as good as I've heard it is.
3. I Hate Fairyland Vol 2 Skottie Young - I stumbled across the first volume at the library and it was hilarious! The second volume just came in today off my Hold list. So I'll be picking it up tonight.

1. Lumberjanes by Noelle Stevenson - I didn't realize Noelle Stevenson had another comic series after Nimona until my sister picked this up a few weeks ago.  Since then it's been on my TBR and I seriously need to pick it up.
2. Constantine by Ming Doyle - There not enough words on how much I love John Constantine. So I'm looking forward to the new series.
3. Rasputin Vol 2 by Alex Grecian - I original put this series on my TBR because it was Alex Grecian and I love his work.  The second reason is Rasputin is such an interesting person in history that's shrouded in myth.  The first volume was really good, and I've been waiting to get my hands the next installment.

1. Marvel 1602 by Neil Gaiman - Who doesn't want to see our favorite Marvel Heroes set in 1602 via Neil Gaiman?!
