Can't Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Wishful Endings to spotlight and talk about the books we're excited about what we have yet to read. Generally they are books that have yet to be released, but don't have to be. It is based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by the fabulous at Breaking the Spine.

Release Date: January 2nd, 2018
Author: Sidney Perkowitz and Eddy von Mueller
Genre: Nonfiction
Pages: 384

The tale of a tormented creature created in a laboratory began on a rainy night in 1816 in the imagination of a nineteen-year-old Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, newly married to the celebrated Romantic poet Percy Shelley. Since its publication two years later, in 1818, Frankenstein: Or, the Modern Prometheushas spread around the globe through every possible medium and variation. Frankenstein has not been out of print once in 200 years.  It has appeared in hundreds of editions, perhaps more than any other novel. It has inspired a multitude of stage and screen adaptations, the latest appearing just last year. “Frankenstein” has become an indelible part of popular culture, and is shorthand for anything bizarre and human-made; for instance, genetically modified crops are “Frankenfood.”

Why I'm Waiting: I'm huge fan of Frankenstein: Or, the Modern Prometheus, and I'm excited to read how it's effect film and science since 1818.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme started by the Broke and the Bookish.  Each week they chose a new meme and bloggers pick their Top Ten Books, TV Shows, Movies, etc that fit that theme. This week the theme is: Books I'm Thankful For!

#Allofthem

Okay so I sat at my desk and tried to think of just ten books to put on this list that I was thankful for. The problem was I had a hard time nailing it down to just ten as I went through the stacks against my wall and my "To Read" section on Goodreas.com. What I realized was I lot of a good memories of lot of those books that seem special to me. The ones I picked up after college that reminded me how much I missed reading for fun (that's right I said it, I read for fun!). There were the ones I'll never get to read again twice I push on all my friends because the remind that books can surprised you. Of course I have the books the got me out funk, out of feeling low, alone, and so many other things. Lastly I found books that mean something to me because I share my love of those books with family members.

So at the end of the day I decided that I couldn't pick ten, twenty, of even just a small group to represent the books I'm thankful for. Because at the end of the day I'm thankful for them all. For the ones I'll never get around to reading because there's enough time. To the ones I'm not into because I know they made someone else happy. For the ones that haven't been written yet because I'll have worlds, adventures, and new things to learn with those.

But, mostly I'm thankful for my local library being badass and having a never ending selection from to take from. As much as I'd love to buy all the books, my budget doesn't allow for that. So I'm enternally grateful for that as well.

Tortall: A Spy's Guide - Review

Author: Tamora Pierce
Genre: YA Fantasy
Series: Tortall Series
Format: Hardback
Pages: 320

The secrets of Tortall are revealed. . . .

As Tortall’s spymaster, George Cooper has sensitive documents from all corners of the realm. When Alanna sends him a surprising letter, he cleans out his office and discovers letters from when King Jonathan and Queen Thayet first ascended the throne, notes on creating the Shadow Service of spies, threat-level profiles on favorite characters, Daine’s notes on immortals, as well as family papers, such as Aly’s first report as a young spy and Neal’s lessons with the Lioness. This rich guide also includes the first official timeline of Tortallan events from when it became a sovereign nation to the year Aly gives birth to triplets. Part history, part spy training manual, and entirely fascinating, this beautiful guide makes a perfect gift and is ideal for anyone who loves Alanna, King Jonathan, Queen Thayet, Kel, Neal, Aly, Thom, Daine, Numair, and the unforgettable world of Tortall!

LOVED IT!

The Tortall books were some of my favorites growing up, and that feeling as changed since becoming an adult. Through all of those years two characters have always been my favorite: George Cooper and Numair Salmalin. So to finally have a book put together by the bits of papers that George Cooper had in a spare room was all I needed to know. With the added bonus that Numair would make an appearance, just and added bonus! Nothing about this book disappointed me.

It's just not the work of Tamora Pierce, but of her and friends who also love the land of Tortall. However, I couldn't tell. Everything flowed together wonderful. There wasn't a moment where I didn't think a page didn't fit well into the world that Tamora Pierce had created, or that a character felt different from how I remembered them.

I loved the added bits of artwork as well. Finally getting to see what a few of the characters actually look like in, as well as how a few of the Immortal Creatures actually look like. In some places it added it a bit of fun, like the section all about the feasts for Their Majesties.

As a whole I thought the book flowed well together. Each section is clearly marked of what you're about to get, and each section dips its toe into a different part of the stories that came before it. Mentions of characters, places, and events. Which was fun to be brought back to places I haven't been in years! It was also a reminder of certain characters that I disliked, because sadly some of them made an appearance that they are want to do.

It was also fun to get to see a bit for the Lioness's children. While Aly has a whole book written around her, her brother's only get a small mention. So it was nice to get to see a bit of them. Of course it was delightful to see a grown up George Cooper as well. Though, not much has really changed in my opinion.

Really I don't have enough words to talk about how much I adored Tortall: A Spy's Guide. The only bad thing I have to say is that I'm always sad when Beka Copper doesn't get a mention, but I also understand she was a little before the time frame of this book. I was also sad that Faithful got very little mention. Faithful is one of my favorite creatures in the entire Tortall world!

Honestly, it was great book that I had to force myself to not devour in a single sitting. And it's one I'll go back and reread to see what I missed the first the time around.

Buy, Borrow, or Skip: If you are fan of Tamora Pierce you  need to add this to your collection. If you haven't read any of her books... Why are you still sitting there? Go to you local library, bookstore, or Free Little Library. Right now?!

Cover Release - The Mermaid

Release Date: June 19, 2018
Publisher: Berkley
Author: Christina Henry
Series: Stand Alone
Once there was a mermaid who longed to know of more than her ocean home and her people. One day a fisherman trapped her in his net but couldn't bear to keep her. But his eyes were lonely and caught her more surely than the net, and so she evoked a magic that allowed her to walk upon the shore. The mermaid, Amelia, became his wife, and they lived on a cliff above the ocean for ever so many years, until one day the fisherman rowed out to sea and did not return.

P. T. Barnum was looking for marvelous attractions for his American Museum, and he'd heard a rumor of a mermaid who lived on a cliff by the sea. He wanted to make his fortune, and an attraction like Amelia was just the ticket.

Amelia agreed to play the mermaid for Barnum, and she believes she can leave any time she likes. But Barnum has never given up a money-making scheme in his life, and he's determined to hold on to his mermaid.

I'm so excited for this! I read my first Christina Henry book this year, Lost Boy, and I absolutely adored it. My review can be found, here! I'm really excited to see Henry's take on a man like P.T. Barnum. He's a legend for so many things, and so few of those are good things. The Mermaid  is definitely on my watch list for 2018!
