New Release Tuesday

Following a successful but exhausting book tour, Joe Biden is looking forward to returning home. However, before he does, he's got one last stop to make: Chicago, where the Obama Foundation is holding its first annual global economics forum. Barack Obama has invited Joe to meet a wealthy left-leaning philanthropist, whose deep pockets Joe will need if he decides to run for president. Joe isn't even sure if wants to run...but he's not going to pass up a rare chance to reconnect with his one-time governing mate.

Joe and Obama barely have time to catch up before another mystery lands in their laps: Obama's prized Blackberry is stolen. When the suspect turns up comatose from a gunshot wound, local police are content with writing it off as just another gangland shooting. But Joe and Obama smell a rat.

In a race to find the shooter, Joe and Obama butt heads with their former compadre, Mayor Rahm Emanuel; follow a trail of clues through Chicago's South Side; go undercover inside a Prohibition-era speakeasy; and scale the Tribune Tower in a Die Hard-worthy final set-piece.

Robert Frost said "the woods are dreary, dark, and deep." So are the waters of Lake Michigan...and if Joe and Obama aren't careful, that's where they could wind up spending their retirement.

Halfway Point for BINGO and Backlist

Sweet Biscuits it's July! I can't overly sure what happened to June, but I think is broke the sound barrier as it passed by. Not sure if  fell into a slump this month, or what. All three books I've been reading are great. Just haven't much been in the mode. Kind of because one of the books is about to punch me in the feels, and I've been pushing it off. Also, kind my job got a little bananas. The later seems to be calming down. As for the former, I need to put on the big girl pants.

Okay BINGO first, because I'm getting my butt kicked still. Sarah is a freaking machine this year, and as for my roommate. She's away with work so her board might not be update. Which means if I buckle down I might be able to get ahead of her before the end of the summer. Maybe.

So it's a definite improvement from three months ago, but as usual I'm skirting past every BINGO. Which I probably wouldn't do if I had any sort of reading list I actually stuck to. Though, I've been kind of in the mood for a Classic read the last few weeks. So Count of Monte Cristo might be going on vacation with me. Good-bye re-read box.

Only added two new books in the last three months to this challenge. Sadly my last few reads have all been published this year. In fact most of the ones I've been itching to pick up are all recently published. I need to throw in some dustier books from the last few years that need to be cracked open. After all, beach reading season is finally here. 

Hopefully everyone else is doing a little better than me. Who is now 10 books behind her reading her goal. My fingers are crossed Dewey's Reverse Readathon helps me close the gap.

Cover Runway Sunday

They say don't judge a book by its cover, but we all know we do it. Sometimes it's the cover that originally catches our eye, drawing us to give a book a closer look. It's the first thing we see, our first impression. Every Sunday I'm going to post some of my favorite covers of books coming soon! Some are by authors I already enjoy, some are the reason I gave the book a longer look. Either way they're all going to find their way here!

Mid-Year Freak Out Book Tag 2019

I did this tag last year and really enjoyed it. It's a fun way to look back in the last six months and see what I've read, the patterns my reading is taking so fart this year, and a reminder of the books still to come. Ugh... I could honestly be doing better. I'm 9 books behind schedule. I wish I had a good excuse for this, like work got so crazy I just didn't have the spare time between normal every day stuff. But, I don't drive so I have a 40 minute, sometimes an hour, bus ride to and from work that I should be reading on. Not playing games on my phone, or in a couple of cases, napping. So the goal for July is to make that gap smaller. Lucky for me about to have 2 decent sized flights to make that happen.

Okay, so this isn't a post, but it's definitely my favorite thing that happened this year here on Bookish Whispers. So I'm really bad at checking my subscriber list, because I honestly don't think about it. Because I don't check them, I got a lovely surprise when my dad text me about a gif that I clearly didn't send him. Only to realize it was gif that he was referring to was on my blog post that day. Which I didn't think much of. Maybe he'd seen it while with my mom, but then I realized the time and they were both at work. So I did some searching, and what do you know, he's on the list.

So long story, short, kinda, I was really chuffed he was following the blog. He's not as big of a reader as me and my mom. So it's really cool that he's plugged into what's going on here at Bookish Whispers.

4th of July

I will be watching fireworks from a safe distance. Because I'm an accident waiting to happen during the 4th! So many stories of exploding Black Cats while still in my hand and sideways missiles. So everyone be safe and drink lots of water! For anyone not in the US, have a Happy Thursday!!

June Wrap Up

How is June over? How?! The month flew by! Honestly I haven't done all that much because things at my job got a little crazy as the summer kicked off. It meant my reading took a back seat so I could keep on work and life stuff. I did get to spending an evening with some my Aunt and Uncle that I hadn't seen in a minute, which was amazing. Kicked off summer with watermelon mimosas when I carved out some me time with a friend. Which I did a second a time thanks to my Boss helping with my staffing problem and got to go to the zoo. i don't think matters how old you are, the zoo turns you into a kid again.

Example: I forgot the what an elk was called and yelled out, "Not Moose". Because I was little sleep deprived and a lot sun drunk.

It was a heretic month, but things are looking better as July officially kicks off today. So many amazing things outside of Bookish Whispers to look forward to. The biggest things is my baby brother is getting married, and I'm so excited for him. Plus, I've actually made plans with friends. Tickets bought kind of plans.

Hope Rides Again Unboxing

I apologize for everyone for getting this song stuck in their head, but appropriate because this is what was humming to go pick up this package. Probably because I'm sleep deprived due, but that is neither here nor there. What matters is that there is nothing better than book mail when in the middle of long week. Especially when that mail is attached to one of your favorite series.

Last year I somehow managed to be lucky enough to help spread the word of Hope Never Dies. The first book in the Obama/Biden Murder Mystery series. It was fun, but the book was better. My copy floated around with my co-workers and is currently on an island with my flatmate. So when the opportunity fell into my lap to do it again with Hope Rides Again, I said yes.

So despite everything I knew was about to fall in my lap at work, I was excited to find this in mail early this week:

I've had a couple afternoon away to hang a few of the posters, and I've given stickers and bookmarks to my friends I know loved the first book. The rest will find homes over the next couple of days. I spent today power reading through my current read so Hope Rides Again can be the first book I pick up in July. Fitting since it's release is the second Tuesday of month (July 9th)!

Really I can't thank Quirk Books enough for the chance to help spread the word about Hope Rides Again. It's an amazing fun series that is as ridiculous as it is fun. I've been itching to read this Andrew Shaffer's website announced that there would in fact be a second book. One can only hope that this one does well enough to give us a third, or that it's already happening. Because I need all the books about this epic Bromance. All the books!

If your looking for a fun beach, or vacation, read this year, this is one I'd recommend. There's murder, laughs, fights, a red herring or two, bromance, and somewhat happy ending. Plus, the covers are amazing! I honestly didn't think it could get better than the first one, but sometimes it's good to be wrong.
